April 9 - US President Barack Obama, well on his way to covering his hands with as much blood as his predecessor, asked the US Congress this week for an extra $83.4 billion to fund occupation efforts in Afghanistan and Iraq this year.
The US President claimed this would be his last request for more Federal money for the failed operations which have cost hundreds of thousands of innocent lives in a pathetic attempt to wage a war of terror against the Middle East.
The money will most likely be split between funding the partial evacuation of US occupation forces in Iraq, and transferring another 17,000 to Afghanistan. Both fronts have been costly endeavors for the imperialist powers, where US occupation forces are facing an increasingly uphill battle against a powerful resistance movement capable of inflicting heavy casualties against the foreign invaders.
Obama's latest request for more than $80 billion dollars puts the total US war spending for 2009 at approximately $150 billion, at least according to the Associated Press. In total, the invasion and occupation of both Afghanistan and Iraq have cost the imperialist US more than $1 trillion since 2001.
Despite his campaign rhetoric calling for "change," the new US President has wasted no time in his first three months in office in picking up exactly where former President George W. Bush left off.
