April 9 -Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad announced today the opening of the Islamic Republic's very first nuclear power plant.
Speaking at the celebration marking a radical breakthrough in Iran's technological and scientific achievement, the President informed the media and public that Iran has already tested "two kinds of new, high capacity centrifuges at the Natanz uranium enrichment facility."
The stated goals of the Islamic Republic's atomic energy program is first, to establish total self-sufficiency and independence from all foreign forces, and secondly to make use and benefit from the internal resources available to the country for peaceful purposes.
After the opening ceremony, Alaeddin Borujerdi, head of Iran's parliamentary Commission of National Security and Foreign Policy, announced the completion of the "nuclear fuel cycle," and that "there is no room for the idea of halting enrichment in negotiations" with the imperialist west.
According to the Farsi News Agency, the plant is capable of producing 10 tons of nuclear fuel annually for use in the heavy water reactors, as well as 30 tons for light water reactors.
